Our “month off” is almost over, which means we will be starting our plans for next year’s Dragon*Con soon. I’ll post some feedback on what we thought worked well, and what we thought we could do better on for next year. It would really help us out if you guys did the same.
What do you want more of?
What can we do without?
What can we do differently?
What games would you like to see represented next year?
I’m fairly certain that we will not be in the Sheraton next year, but that determination isn’t up to me and is quite a way off. Assume, for the time being, that we will be in an unknown location. What kinds of things will improve our track regardless of where it is held?
Also… One of the things we can ALWAYS use more of is “Subject Matter Experts”. This year, for example, I had to run the Warhammer Online panel because nobody on my staff played the beta, and Mythic/EA had to cancel at the last minute. If you are willing to run a panel, and have some expertise on an MMO, then step on up and let me hear from you. As much as I might try, I can’t play more than 2 or 3 MMO’s at any given time.

Hi Grimthorn!
This is only semi-relevant to this post…I just wanted to let you guys know that the Questgivers website (http://www.questgivers.com) is live! Just in time for our promised date, too…
Oh, and by the way, congrats on the baby! She is absolutely adorable.

When are you guys going to post the pics from trivia?
I’ll be meeting w/my staff sometime this week. That will definitely be one of the homework assignments.
Unfortunately, the staffer that took most of those pics will be at Blizzcon so it might be the following week before she can post them all.

Hopefully next year we will see our first look of Stargate Worlds Live and Released. Free Realms from SOE looks really awesome, hoping that is live and we get things on that also.
What can we do without….small rooms for some content, where a bigger one is needed.
I would love to see more about the coding side of games, mods, etc… and people explaining how to do it and how to get into the gaming industry possibly.
The new Star Wars MMO… hopefully by that time more info is out.
One of the best and absolute best panels was the WoW Drama, definitely make it longer, with more content, big room and get ready for lots of laughs.
We will definitely have a panel for Free Realms. (Sony is planning on coming back.. but at 11 months out, nothing is “official”)
We’re also working on Cheyenne Mountain entertainment to come out and do a live demo of SGW.
The “big room/small room” situation is a little more unpredictable. I expected a HUGE crowd for SGW this year, so much so that I scheduled 2 panels, and while the numbers were ok, one room would have done the trick.
I totally didn’t see WoW Drama coming… I thought 100 people would be “pushing it”, and we got almost 3 times that many.
We have our “early list” of what we’d like to do for panels for next year, but there are a couple of questions left unanswered.
Will we have 2 smaller rooms in addition to our big room for night time events? Will we have a big room to use the entire weekend? How many panel slots will we have to fill? (I could EASILY fill 2 small rooms + 1 big room for the entire weekend.)
Now I gotta find a contact at BioWare and see if they’ll do something on Old Republic. I have a feeling that panel would be huge. (Star Wars fans? D*C? Say it ain’t so!)
There is also Star Trek Online to consider… and DC Universe Online…

Oh yes, how could I forget Star Trek Online… I think some of the problem this year with a low SGW panel may have been that a lot of people didn’t even know that it is coming down the pipeline.
If you can get Bioware out there…..with something from the new MMO ….wow, I think you are correct when you say it would be huge…
I am kinda just wondering, anything about Blizzard? WoW, Starcraft, DiabloIII?
All I can say at this time is that we have talked to them. They appear to have some interest, but nothing substantive has been discussed yet.
There may also be a computer gaming track separate from MMOs for console games, single player PC games, RTS, etc… Not definite yet.
