Rooms at the Marriott for next year’s Dragon*Con went on sale at 8:00 AM this morning. According to some sources on Twitter, Marriott’s “Passkey” system was woefully unprepared for the avalanche of Dragon*Con peeps looking for rooms. According to the Marriott Marquis website as well as the “Passkey” website, all rooms at the Marriott have already sold out. (for the record, it is now 8:30 AM, that’s 1569 rooms gone in a half hour. DAMN!)
Don’t wait to make reservations folks. This isn’t Comic-Con where you can make a room reservation the week before the convention.
The passkey website was down by 08:00:07.
The passkey site was down 5 minutes before 8 AM.
It’s just double beds that are out, kings are still available 50 minutes in. And it’s not for the *whole* hotel. Just for the current open block for D*C.
Actually, it died before 8 due to all the people hammering it.
Cal managed to get to the “enter your credit card info and confirm” page twice. It timed out both times submitting the info. He’s on the phone arguing with them right now.
We are not amused. (And are Marriott platinum members, someone’s head is going to get kicked.)
No Thursdays. Mondays are probably gone now too. No doubles (though, double vs king doesn’t matter on your registration, you get what you get when you check in – registered king last year, but got a double at check in).
I got my Friday thru Mon. Wish I got Thursday, but I’ll live.

Further update on the Marriott. Last week I received an e-mail from the Marquis, with an apology and asking if I would be willing to work with them to learn what went wrong and what they need to do to fix it. While I said I would be willing, it came at a price…a room, as requested, at the Dragon*Con rate.
I have a room at the Marriott Marquis for Dragon*Con. Marriott won the world for customer service that day.
