Probably the biggest news in the MMO world today is the release of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. Published by Blizzard, Starcraft was first released in 1998 after a major overhauling due to a poor showing at E3 in 1996. Blizzard made the right move, as Starcraft has sold over 11 million copies from 1998 till 2009. Now enter Startcraft II, the long awaited sequel. It again will follow the story of Terran (outcast human) Jim Raynor on his quest to survive Zergs, Protoss, and well, other Terran. If you don’t want to go the storyline route you can play any of the three races to try and dominate the galaxy. And now, for your viewing pleasure, Starcraft II: Wings of LIberty.

I don’t care if Monday IS blue! I’m here to cheer you up with the latest and greatest geek news on the block. I’m also kind of running out of kitschy pop-culture references to go along with Monday in my opening statements, so if you can help a brother out lemme know.
We’ve got some great news in the works for those of you who attend our track panels this year, but we’re not quite ready to reveal it yet. Suffice it to say, if you thought we had some great events last year you haven’t seen ANYTHING yet. In the meantime, though, get a load of the list below for some other fun things that are going on in the geek world.
A glorious evening to you all, noble warriors in the Snark army! It is time once again for your Secretary of Geek affairs to fill you in on some of the awesome news of the last week. My apologies for the lateness of the post, but I was feeling a bit under the weather today and so, unfortunately, has Mama McGreevy. Never worry, though! I did manage to gather a few tidbits to quench your thirst for geek knowledge, and you’ll find them behind the cut.
Hello everyone! It’s time for another edition of the SnarkCast. This episode, we ramble and scramble through swampf and through swumpf, and bring you news about MMOs, because we’re Nice People. (har!) That said, this one contains a bit more cussing than normal, so keep the headphones on if you’re at work or the kiddies are around. Show notes are behind the break.
Though the date isn’t set, Cataclysm beta testing will begin soon. Possibly the end of the month. To sign up for a chance to participate, go to your battle.net accounts and look for the ‘beta profile settings’ link. This will send your system specifications to Blizzard and put you in the drawing. Good luck!
Ahhh, Lazy Sunday. A day to rest and recharge for the week. Unless, that is, you happen to be on the Dragon*Con MMORPG track staff. If you are and your name just happens to be Michael C. McGreevy (which mine is), Sunday is a day for digging up a bunch of links about geek stuff and making a post with snarky comments about them.
Which, I suppose, isn’t all that bad in the grand scheme of things. He could have asked me to comb his back hair or something. Yeech.
Anyway, here’s your Monday Geek Roundup you lucky dogs! I tried to collect news throughout the entire week instead of just gathering stuff that popped up over the weekend this time, so you may have already caught some of this.
Yeah, I know, we promised…
This version of the Snarkcast is a little more “free form” than usual. Of course we make fun of the usual suspects (World of Warcraft, Aion, and NCSoft in general) as well as give you some recent news from Dragon*Con and the games we happen to be playing at the moment. (Both Krystalle and I are kinda hooked on Fallen Earth right now)
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy. Now that we’re a little closer to the holidays, we should start getting more Dragon*Con related information to throw your way as well as having a little more time to actually play all of the games we love to play.

Yeah, I realize that I’m going to run out of sequel titles to use in these posts and that I’ll be repeating myself soon. I’ll deal with that problem when I get there.
It’s been a crazy week in the land of SnarkCast, and Krys and Grim have already been overtaken by events given that we recorded this podcast before:
- The Dragon*Con Staff Meeting last weekend.
- Blizzard was allowed to partially re-launch WoW in China.
Oh well, them’s the breaks. In any event, enjoy the podcast (show notes are included after the jump). Thanks for listening, and we’ll be recording a new podcast very soon.
After a month off to tend to various injuries (Krys hurt her wrist, and Grim busted up his knee), Krys and Grim are back with another SnarkCast. Everyone and everything is fair game for our snarktastic duo this time around. If you, or the game you love, find yourselves in our cross-hairs, take solace in the fact that you aren’t alone. We snark because we love. (Except Gold Farmers, nobody likes those little idiots.)

About
DC*MMO is a year-round community of gamers and fans of the MMORPG Programming Track at Dragon*Con. Rather than update a Facebook page, a LiveJournal page, a Twitter feed, a MySpace page, and a hundred other sources of information, we created this site as the official source of all news and information of interest to the DC*MMO community.
Who are we?
DC*MMO has a dozen staff members who work year-round to prepare for each year’s Dragon*Con. In addition to maintaining this website, we have to research new games (yes, playing games is part of the job), talk to community relations staff, come up with contests and prizes, and most of all work the convention itself and make sure our guests and fans get where they are supposed to go. It’s fun work, but it never ever ends.
A partial list of the games that we cover includes:
• Age of Conan
• Anarchy Online
• AQ Worlds
• Champions Online
• City of Heroes
• DC Universe Online
• EVE Online
• Everquest
• Everquest 2
• Force of Arms
• Free Realms
• Gaia Online
• Guild Wars
• Kingdom of Loathing
• Lord of the Rings Online
• Pirates of the Burning Sea
• Second Life
• Star Trek Online
• Star Wars Galaxies
• Stargate Worlds
• Tabula Rasa
• Vanguard
• Warhammer Online
and, of course…
• World of Warcraft
If there is a game that you would like to see us cover, of if you are a game developer who wants to participate in Dragon*Con, please Contact Us and let us know.
